Your favorite Disney Halloween classic is getting a sequel
Remember the 1993 Halloween classic “Hocus Pocus”? Disney is putting together a sequel to the hit and the new movie is expected to start production next year and launch on the Disney+ subscription service. Jen D’Angelo is set to write the script for the project, which currently does not have an official title at this time.
The original “Hocus Pocus” was released in July, and despite debuting in the summer, still made over $8M on its opening weekend before grossing over $39.5M worldwide. “Hocus Pocus” starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, with Kenny Ortega directing. The movie also featured Omri Katz, Thora Birch, Vinessa Shaw, and Doug Jones.
The movie follows a trio of witch sisters who return to the world 300 years after they were defeated to undo a curse placed upon them. Freeform is currently playing film on repeat for the popular “31 Nights of Halloween” programming event, showing just how popular and how much of a following the film still has to this day.
And in preparation for the new streaming service, Disney+ is accepting pre-orders in the United States. Customers can be among the first to start streaming on November 12th, the official launch day of Disney+. Plans go from $7/monthly or $70/annually.
