Ever Wonder Why You Jerk Yourself Awake While Sleeping?

These are involuntary jerks that occur during the night, though if you’ve ever experienced them, we don’t need to give them much of an introduction. It isn’t exactly the most pleasant way to wake up.

So, what is actually happening here? Well, the phenomenon occurs when one part of the brain tries to go to sleep faster than other parts. As one could imagine, the brain tries to comprehend what this sensation is, as it does frequently, hence why people imagine themselves falling off a cliff, or falling down. That’s your brain trying to figure out and rationalize why the heck you are jerking!

But, it’s not all fun and games, guys. Often times, when people experience these sensations, they are stressed or sleep deprived, or even habits that aren’t healthy before bed like drinking caffeine.
