Kate Winslet has revealed that she and Leonardo DiCaprio never had any romantic feelings for one another when they filmed ‘Titanic’. The pair, who have both had dynamic and successful careers as Hollywood actors, played doomed lovers Rose and Jack in James Cameron’s 1997 iconic movie.
The movie is about the well-known ship, the Titanic, which was originally deemed “unsinkable” by its engineers. It famously sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912, after it collided with an iceberg on its maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New York City. Of the approximately 2,224 passengers onboard, 1,500 died in the icy waters. The movie is about two lovers who come from different social classes and meet on board the ship.
Although the characters in the movie were fictional, the romance of the love story combined with the tragedy of so many people dying in real life were what the director, Cameron focused on in order to provide the best emotional impact to portray the story. While their characters had amazing chemistry and the movie was about a love story, Winslet never had romantic feelings for DiCaprio, who was still one of Hollywood’s most eligible bachelors.
Kate insists that their lack of romantic spark has been a good thing because it has allowed them to maintain a great friendship that has lasted 20 years. Over the years, they have been great fans and supporters of each other and their careers.
