Wanda Pratt isn’t the only “real MVP.” All moms show their strength through the sacrifices they make for their children.
Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant famously thanked his mom Wanda in a speech he delivered after winning the NBA Most Valuable Player in 2014. In the speech, he told Pratt, “you’re the real MVP.”
In a first of the three-part video series, Eunique Jones Gibson, creator of the non-profit organization Because of Them We Can, interviews Pratt and Durant, asking Pratt about what advice she would give to other mothers who want to empower their children to dream big.
“One of the things I required of both my boys is that whatever they had committed to they had to finish,” Pratt says in the interview.
The two other videos in the series delve into Pratt and Durant’s personal stories. Pratt shares about women who inspired her as a single mom and supporting her two children to achieve their goals.
“I was just so focused on him achieving that goal until that big freshman year and it was just, wow, my son is awesome, and I started to believe that he could play in the NBA,” Pratt says in the video.
Kevin Durant’s older brother, Anthony, also shares his story of his and Kevin’s childhood, reminiscing about their best bonding moments and how he always wanted to encourage his little brother.
“His dream was my dream … my dream was to make sure my family was fine. I always want to be there for my family,” Durant said.
