These Fish Literally Learned to Fly to Escape Predators and Now Birds are Eating Them

Attenborough says it best, “caught between the Devil and the deep blue sea.” Freddy, the flying fish also said it well, “like seriously?!? Come on!”

Flying fish can make powerful, self-propelled leaps out of water into air, where their long, wing-like fins enable gliding flight for considerable distances. It appears these Flying Fish are in a no win situation, picked off above the surface by Frigatebirds and devoured underwater by Dorados.

A scene from BBC’s The Hunt.
