Heterosexuals To Host Straight Pride Parade

A “Straight Pride” parade is one step closer to becoming a reality, and Boston is set to be the first city to host such an event. City officials said the organizers’ public event application was approved Thursday, which is Step One toward receiving a permit for the parade.

The next step requires the organizers to get the approval of police district captains and the licensing board to receive a parade permit as well as an entertainment license. While many are celebrating the idea of a “Straight Pride” parade, many critics are lashing back saying that the idea is homophobic.

The parade is being put on by Super Happy Fun America, but in an interview with CNN, the group’s president, John Hugo, said the event is “not anti-gay but pro-straight.” So far, more than 350 volunteers have joined the effort and Milo Yiannopoulos is set to be the grand marshal, Hugo said. The permit also reveals that 2,000 attendees are expected to show up.

“The city has assured me that if we follow the steps, it will go through,” said Hugo. However, Mayor Marty Walsh will not attend, city officials said. The parade is expected to be held on Aug. 31 from noon to 3 p.m., according to the application.
