Expectations were very high when the Recording Academy nominated BTS’ “Love Yourself: Tear” album in the Best Recording Package category at the 2019 Grammy Awards, and fans all across the globe were on the edge of their seats.
But as the ceremony got underway in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 10 unfortunately the K-pop band lost out on receiving an award to that of St. Vincent’s Masseduction, created by art director Willo Perron.
However, BTS at the Grammys was a major moment for representation in of itself and an amazing feat to be recognized by the stateside awards show regardless of the loss.
“Love Yourself: Tear” is the first ever Korean album to be recognized in any category by the Recording Academy. And showing just how loyal and proud they are of their boys, BTS’ fan ARMY reacted with pride to the news. Theyalso showed their excitement for band’s appearance, which is the first-ever Korean act to present an award at the Grammys.
The group even caused mayhem when they showed up on the red carpet to pose for photos and participate in pre-show interviews.
Fans took to Twitter to celebrate BTS’ historic Grammys appearance and the album’s nomination, leading to the hashtag “Tear It Up BTS” trending worldwide on the social media platform.
