Goo Hara Hospitalized After Suicide Attempt
The suicide of Kim Jong-hyun, the 27-year-old lead singer of K-pop boy band SHINee, prompted Korea to finally open a conversation in mental health in South Korea. In his suicide note, Jonghyun described his battle against depression, saying it was slowly chipping him away before “finally devouring” him.
South Korea’s entertainment industry is known for its intense demands while the country itself still holds a stigma over mental health that prevents people from seeking out the medical and professional help they need.
In the most recent news, another popular K-pop group member attempted to commit suicide but thankfully was rescued before anything severe occurred. K-pop star Goo Hara attempted to commit suicide at her home in the early morning on May 26 but was fortune rescued.
The night before, Hara posted a series of messages on her Instagram, sharing quotes of a lot of hidden meaning that talked about issues of betrayal, two-faced individuals, self-doubt, contemplation about life and more.
Some fans even noticed when Hara posted and deleted a cryptic post that said “Goodbye.” Her manager noticed the posts, and after several failed attempts to reach Hara, the manager rushed to her house and found her unconscious in a room filled with smoke.
Hara is now in the hospital, and though currently unconscious, it has been confirmed that she has not sustained any life-threatening injuries.
Hara was reported to have been suffering from constant maltreatment since her long and exhaustive legal battle with her former boyfriend Choi Jong-bum over an abusive relationship.
