Hurricane Dorian Battered Bahamas; Finally Inches Away From US

Hurrican Dorian is making its way to the US

Although Hurricane Dorian has downgraded to a Category 3 storm, it still continues its assault on the Bahamas.

The monster of a storm pummeled parts of the Bahamas for the past 36 hours and has just finally started to inch away from Grand Bahama. However, the storm is showing signs it’s growing before heading towards the Southeast.

According to the National Hurricane Center, as of 10 a.m. EDT, Dorian is continuing to produce wind gusts of up to 115 mph and a storm surge of 10-to-15 feet “with higher destructive waves.”

Dorian was located about 45 miles northeast of Freeport on Grand Bahama Island and about 100 miles east of West Palm Beach, FL.

After 36 hours of major hurricane-force winds, storm surge and flooding rainfall for the Bahamas, Hurricane Dorian still remained stationary as it underwent some structural changes in terms of the eye.

So far, officials said that at least five people have died and 21 injured people were airlifted to the capital by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Grand Bahama’s airport was 6 feet underwater and people were moving from one shelter to another as floodwaters kept surging. Homes were flooded and Bahamian officials said they received a “tremendous” number of calls from people in distress.
