Internet Sensation Grumpy Cat Dies At 7

Don’t stay grumpy or sad when you read the news

Grumpy Cat, the feline internet celebrity whose permanent scowl spoke for all of us in moments of contempt, died in the arms of her “mommy” on Tuesday. She was 7.

The cat, whose actual name is Tardar Sauce, is from Arizona, and she died after complications arose from a urinary tract infection, her family wrote on Twitter.

“Besides being our baby and a cherished member of the family, Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world — even when times were tough,” according to the Twitter post.

Although cats have come and gone in their moment of fame on the Internet, none have achieved the level of fame and power the way Grumpy Cat did.
She first rose to prominence six years ago, after her owner posted a photo to Reddit, captioned “Meet grumpy cat.”

Grump Cat quickly became a famous meme with people writing out bold words above and below the cat’s frown, which quickly became a way for people to express their grumpy thoughts in a lighthearted manner.

Grumpy Cat’s visage was named the Meme of the Year at the 2013 Webby Awards.
Goodbye Grumpy Cat, you shall surely be missed.
