Jimmy Kimmel's emotional goodbye to his hero, David Letterman

Jimmy Kimmel got real emotional while sending off David Letterman.

Tuesday night was Jimmy Kimmel’s turn to pay tribute to his idol and comedic inspiration, David Letterman. Kimmel shares how he was a Letterman fan even as a kid, showing pictures from his Letterman-themed 16th birthday party and even how Letterman was the inspiration behind the license plate number on his first car.

Kimmel goes on to credit a guest spot he did on The Late Show as the reason that he has his current late-night hosting gig and even lets his band leader pay a quick tribute to Paul Shaffer.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! will air a rerun on Wednesday night out of respect for Letterman’s last night hosting The Late Show.
