Enjoy your tea like Her Majesty
The Queen of England is known for her love of a nice cuppa tea and her official tea supplier is spilling the tea, literally. Here’s how to create a cuppa tea fit from the Queen from Her Majesty’s tea supplier, Twinings.
Since 1837, the English firm Twinings has supplied the monarch and was first honored by Queen Victoria. Twining’s brand director of corporate relations, Stephen Twinings, reveals royal tea secrets to the perfect cup of relaxing tea.
Though Twinings wasn’t able to reveal Her Majesty’s favorite brew, he hints that she is a fan of black tea and gives some tips on making the perfect cup of black tea. With black tea, it’s best to leave the tea to sit for at least four minutes.
Like every good cup of tea, it always starts with the teapot and apparently preparing the teapot is key to a great cup of tea. It’s recommended to heat the teapot with hot water before using the teapot to heat your water.
When you go to boil the water, add cold water to the teapot and heat to a boiling point to immediately pour over your teabag that is prepared in a teacup. Twinings disclosed that over-boiling tea water can leave your tea tasting “flat.”
If you like your tea with some milk, Twinings recommends adding the milk to the teacup before the tea. This will allow the milk to cool the tea instead of letting the tea heat the milk.
Rumors claim Her Majesty’s favorite tea is Earl Grey, taken with no sugar and a little milk. Earl Grey has a slight presence of caffeine for a light black tea.
