It Started With Accusing The Music Artist Of Shoplifting
Sephora is known for not having the friendliest of employees, but this one incident went a little far, prompting the beauty company to close all stores across the country for one hour in order to undergo diversity training. The move comes after singer SZA tweeted about how she was racially profiled at one Sephora branch in Calabasas, California.
In her tweet, SZA wrote that she was shopping at the cosmetics store when security called her out to make sure she wasn’t shoplifting.
“Lmao Sandy Sephora location 614 Calabasas called security to make sure I wasn’t stealing. We had a long talk. U have a blessed day Sandy,” the singer wrote in her tweet.
The next day, Sephora replied to SZA, writing: “Hi, SZA. We’re sorry to hear about your experience at our Calabasas store and appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We want to let you know we take complaints like this very seriously and are actively working with our teams to address the situation immediately.”
Not long after, Sephora announced that all 16,000 of its employees would take part in workshops to help them learn and better understand its values.
Sephora is not the only company that has come under fire for racial profiling. In 2018, Starbucks shut down all its stores for a day in order to train 175,000 employees about racial bias.
