Thailand Celebrates The Birthday Of Their King

All over the country, from North to South and East to West, Thai citizens paid their respects and participated in ceremonies to bless and honor His Majesty the King, who celebrated his birthday on Sunday, July 28. His Majesty turned 67.

The celebration began with a morning highlight event at Sanam Luang (National Stadium) at 7 a.m. where Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, all the cabinet ministers, officials lead government dignitaries and other well-wishers participated in a rite offering alms to monks. Together, they all hosted a ceremony and conducted religious activities to celebrate His Majesty’s birthday.

Part of the event was the Prime Minister and his cabinet ministers making a vow before the King’s portrait to do good deeds for the country.

At 7 p.m., Sanam Luang was illuminated as in a mass candlelit ceremony paying tribute to His Majesty.
Trees were also planted in the King’s honor and participants volunteered to clean public places.
Born in 1952 as Prince Vajiralongkorn, the now King was proclaimed crown prince on Dec. 28 in the year he turned 20, is titled His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn by his father, King Rama IX, or King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

King Maha Vajiralongkorn took over as the King of Thailand after his father’s death, taking on the title King Rama X of the Chakri Dynasty.
