Joey Purp grew up between many different neighborhoods of Chicago. His dad had a restaurant and his mom ran thrift stores. He went to Whitney Young High School, where he discovered his passion for music. In his senior year, he dropped out of high school.
In 2012, Joey Purp released his first mixtape! In 2016, he released a mixtape. It was listed by Pitchfork as the “Best New Music”. And in the video above you can watch him perform a remixed version of “Say You Do” in this Pitchfork.tv session directed by Jim Larson.
