Another actor going after the role of Prince Eric
Christian Navarro, who plays Tony in the hit Netflix series “13 Reasons Why,” has thrown his hat into the ring for the role of Prince Eric in Disney’s upcoming live-action “Little Mermaid” movie. Ever since the actor tweeted out that he was interested in the role and hopes to play a Latino prince in a Disney film, fans have been campaigning for him.
In his Twitter post on Aug. 13, Navarro shared that he can sing and would like to play a Latino prince alongside a black Ariel. Navarro also tagged his “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” co-star Melissa McCarthy, who has already been cast in the film as Ursula.
And just as interested as Navarro is for the role, Disney seems to be interested in Navarro. The actor later revealed that he received a call from the film’s team and he’s already sent in his audition tape.
“Idk what happened to the other tweet. But! @disney saw this, saw your support, and gave my team a call. They wanted to see what I could do. Tapes sent. Fingers crossed. Let’s make some history. #iloveyou3000 #PrinceEric #TheLittleMermaid.”
Halle Bailey, one-half of the singing duo Chloe x Halle and “Grown-ish” actress, was cast to star in the live-action remake as Ariel. Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina have also been added to the Mermaid cast to play two of Ariel’s close friends, Flounder and Scuttle, respectively.
