Billy Dee Williams Is Back For ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’

After much speculation and hope for his return, an official casting announcement confirms that Billy Dee Williams will be reprising his role as Lando Calrissian in J.J. Abrams “Star Wars: Episode IX.”

What we don’t know, aside from everything else about the final chapter in the Skywalker Saga, is just how big Lando’s role in the film will be.

Williams originated the role back in “Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back” in 1980 and continued for “Episode VI – Return of the Jedi” in 1983. Billy Dee Williams previously returned to character of Lando by lending his voice for roles in “The Lego Movie,” “The Cleveland Show,” “Lego Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles,” “Star Wars Rebels,” “Lego Star Wars,” and half a dozen video games.

Donald Glover recently played young Lando in “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” revealing how Lando met Han Solo.

For Episode IX however, it is speculated that Williams’ role is to be a small one and won’t be a major part of the story. Lando Calrissian may fulfill a role in the film similar to that of Maz Kanata, helping the heroes on their quest by pointing them in the direction of the story’s plot.
