After BTS, YG Entertainment’s power girl group BLACKPINK is definitely the next K-pop act we need to look out for.
BLACKPINK are gearing up to dominate 2019, announcing a world tour that will bring the quartet to many fans across the globe. YG Entertainment announced on Wednesday, Jan. 9 that the “In Your Area” 2019 world tour would be heading to North America, Europe, and Australia.
The dates and amount of shows planned for each continent have yet to be announced, and stops in the three regions will follow several tour dates.
BLACKPINK previously launched the tour series in Seoul back in November. The group made history last year when their single “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” and album Square Up became the highest-charting pair ever from a K-pop girl group the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 chart. Their song peaked at No. 55 while the album snagged No. 40.
BLACKPINK also collaborated with Dua Lipa for “Kiss and Make Up,” which charted on the Hot 100 last year, peaking at No. 93.
As for now, The “Boombayah” singers will embark on a string of tour dates starting Jan. 11 in Bangkok, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Manila, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Taipei, with gigs lined up until March 3.
For those who are K-pop novices, BLACKPINK got its start in 2016 with breakout singles “Whistle” and “Boombayah.” The group, consisting of members Rosé, Lisa, Jisoo, and Jennie, has gone on to see major success since their debut, gaining recognition for their catchy tunes, trendy styles and fierce dance numbers.
In other news, Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo and Rose will be performing at Coachella, being the first K-pop girl group to do so.
