Disney’s live action remake of ‘The Lion King’ has officially added Beyoncé to the cast. The film, which opens Summer 2019, will star Queen Bey as Nala with Donald Glover as Simba. Billy Eichner as Timon, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, and James Earl Jones repricing his role as Mufassa. Here are six other Disney live action remakes to get excited about:
1. Mulan: The live action is currently trying to cast a Chinese actress to play Mulan. Niki Caro is set to direct the movie, which opens in 2018.
2. Aladdin: Newcomer Mena Massoud will play Aladdin with Will Smith as Genie, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, and Marwan Kenzari as Jafar. And yes, it will be a musical.
3. The Little Mermaid: No cast has been announced but expect new songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda.
4. Dumbo: Tim Burton will direct the remake, which will feature a script by a ‘Transformers’ writer.
5. Snow White: If you loved ‘La La Land’, you’ll love the new ‘Snow White’, which will include new songs from Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
6. Peter Pan: Few details have been released about the remake, but there is a spinoff called ‘Tink’ starring Reese Witherspoon as Tinker Bell.
