BLACKPINK, an all-female pop group formed by South Korean entertainment agency YG Entertainment, made their U.S. debut by collaborating with Dua Lipa on the song “Kiss and Make Up.”
The bilingual dance track is the Korean group’s first with the U.S. pop star, which is included on Dua Lipa’s latest album, titled “Dua Lipa.”
The song, which was released on Oct. 19, immediately topped the iTunes chart in 21 countries and climbed to eighth place on the U.S. chart.
Since the release, “Forbes” magazine called BLACKPINK “one of the K-pop girl groups with the most crossover potential.”
BLACKPINK previously reached No. 55 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 with “DDU-DU DDU-DU,” while on YouTube, the song became one of the most-viewed music videos within a day of its release.
In other news, BLACKPINK has gained quite the international attention that the group has recently signed with the major American label Interscope Records.
On Oct. 23, YG Entertainment announced: “BLACKPINK recently signed a contract with Interscope, a label under Universal Music, the world’s largest record company. Through YG and Interscope’s partnership, we will make BLACKPINK global stars all over the world.”
The agency added, “As a partner of Universal Music Group, YG, who has its own strengths in Asia, will be creating a diverse array of global projects in the future.”
Interscope Records is currently home artists like Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, Madonna and Selena Gomez.
