Cut single-use waste with biodegradable utensils
Biodegradable and reusable utensils and household objects have seen an increase in popularity over the years due to people becoming more educated and aware of the harmful effects on waste and trash on the environment. If you are thinking of making the green switch, consider these totally cool and sustainable tools to make every experience eco-friendly.
Metal and glass straws are a great alternative to plastic straws, but sometimes they can still harm the earth if tossed or misplaced. A bamboo straw, however, is made from all-natural and organic resources, but more importantly, it is a more sustainable alternative to metal and plastic.
Bamboo straws are made from one of the most sustainable plants—bamboo—and if they do re-enter the environment, they will biodegrade safely. Bamboo is a fast-growing plant that requires no fertilizer and regenerates from its own roots.
Bamboo straws are also easy to clean and can be used more than single-use plastic straws, and are made without toxins, meaning less risk of ingesting harmful chemicals. Another great green-option for utensils are biodegradable cutlery.
One company based in Mexico, BioFase, actually creates cutlery made from an avocado seed that only takes 240 days to biodegrade. As a country responsible for half of the world’s avocado supply, it makes sense that the company utilizes all it can from the fruit to make eco-friendly forks, knives, and spoons.
The company sources its avocado seeds from guacamole and oil manufacturers that might have dumped the pits into a landfill.
But of all this sounds like too much and you want a one-and-done situation, then consider something like an edible spoon.
Edible spoons can be made out of any food item you want and can be paired with your favorite meals. Granola spoons go great with morning yogurt bowls.
Cheddar spoons are a lovely addition to dips or salads. Cookie spoons are a sweet and deliciously crunchy way to eat ice cream. All that is required are some ingredients to mix, shape and bake your perfect edible spoon.
