From gas-guzzler to planet-lover
The car that popularized the term “gas-guzzler” received a facelift to become GMC’s first electric pickup for the new and electronically improved 2022 GMC Hummer EV. This new Hummer model went in the opposite direction of its predecessor offering some of the best features available for electric vehicles.
The first version of this upgraded Hummer EV has three electric motors that are powered by a 24-module Ultium battery pack with an estimated range of 350 miles or more. This new battery system supports 800-volt fast-charging up to 350 kW that can add an extra 100 miles of range within 10 minutes.
All these new features allow for better torque for all-terrain off-roading with 1,000 horsepower. The Hummer EV model 1 also offers smooth handling with adaptive air shocks for a fully independent suspension system.
The new Hummer EV suspension system can adjust the height of the vehicle 6 inches off the ground (in “Extract Mode”) for different terrain driving settings. The standard tires for the vehicle are made to handle any road with 35-inch mud-terrain tires for a fording depth of 2 feet and are capable of driving over an 18-inch verticle obstacle.
The electric off-roader features 18 camera views including angles positioned under the vehicle to check for obstacles in the road. All 18 cameras are connected to a 13.4-inch infotainment screen paired with a 12.3-inch instrument display that helps to control the latest automatic lane-changing feature, Super Cruise.
Even the trunk of this new EV is upgraded for an easy to access MultiPro tailgate with a flip-down step and suites multiple purposed with several closed positions. The Hummer EV sounds like the ultimate off-roading or industrial working truck and customers will have to be hard-workers to afford the new Hummer EV.
GMC is planning to begin production of Edition 1 planned for late 2021 with the base price starting at $112,595 for the first round of production. Following the release of Edition 1, the standard Hummer EV will be available starting at $99,959.
GMC plans to offer the mid-level edition by spring 2023 with features including air suspension, three motors, and four-wheel steering (no torque vectoring) starting at $89,995. GMC plans to ultimately offer a two-motor version of the Hummer EV by spring 2024 that will be priced at $79,995 for a more affordable model.
