The Series Might Be Ending, But Will Finish With A Documentary
If you haven’t set up a viewing party or purchase the snacks and drinks you’ll need as you watch the upcoming “Game of Thrones” final season, then there’s more reason to hurry and do so.
As if the end of the series wasn’t enough emotional turmoil to endure, HBO just announced that it would be airing a two-hour documentary after the series finale, as the final goodbye for die-hard fans.
“Game of Thrones: The Last Watch” will air on May 26, a week after the final episode of the eighth season. The documentary chronicles the making of the final season, taking fans behind the scenes and delving “deep into the mud and blood to reveal the tears and triumphs involved in the challenge of bringing the fantasy world of Westeros to life in the very real studios, fields and car-parks of Northern Ireland,” according to a press release.
Cameras will follow the cast and production crew “as they contend with extreme weather, punishing deadlines and an ever-excited fandom hungry for spoilers.”
As stated by HBO, “Much more than a ‘making of’ documentary, this is a funny, heartbreaking story, told with wit and intimacy, about the bittersweet pleasures of what it means to create a world – and then have to say goodbye to it.”
The eighth season of “Game of Thrones” will kick off on April 14.
