Japan's 'Destiny: The Taken King' trailer is way better than North America's

Destiny: The Taken King brings Bungie‘s 2014 hit into a new phase of its life on Sept. 15, and publisher Activision released two bizarre live-action trailers this week to ratchet up the hype.

To each their own, of course — but it’s hard to look at these trailers side by side and not point to Japan’s as the superior one. I mean, it’s got a guy screaming into a washing machine.

The one released in North America mirrors a similar tease that dropped last year, just before Destiny first launched. The dialogue this time around is quite a bit lamer, but it’s always fun to see your favorite Guardians leaping around while they shoot aliens in the face with improbably large hand cannons.

Here it is:

Then we come to Japan’s Taken King tease. What is even happening here? The one guy is really into cosplay, which, you know, cool deal. But he’s clearly terrifying to his friends. They think he’s lost multiple marbles.

I just can’t decide what I like more: the hyped up scream into an empty, open washing machine, or the throwaway shot of a sad rotating fan mounted on the wall.

I think it’s the fan. Definitely the fan. Here’s the trailer:

Which one wins for you? Separate question: which one gets you more interested in playing Destiny: The Taken King? Is your answer the same for both questions?
