The New Disney+ Exclusive
Disney is releasing a total of four live-action remakes this year alone – “The Lion King,” “Aladdin” have already been released while the trailer for “Maleficent” has been making its rounds on the Internet and hyping fans up for what looks to be an exciting film. But the fourth live-action film has a lot of people talking, especially after the mixed reviews of “The Lion King.”
The last remake of 2020 will be “Lady and the Tramp,” an adaptation of the beloved 1955 animation of the same name. The movie will be released on Nov. 12, 2019, but not in theaters. In a surprising move, “Lady and the Tramp” will be available exclusively on Disney’s new streaming platform, Disney+.
As revealed by the Disney company, the movie was meant for a home release. However, the prospect of at least a limited theatrical run is still in talks, especially if Disney wants the film to qualify for the Oscars.
Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux will star as the voices of Lady and Tramp. The supporting cast includes Sam Elliott as Trusty the bloodhound, Benedict Wong as Bull the bulldog, and Janelle Monáe as Peg the spaniel. Ashley Jensen will be the voice of Jackie, the irritable but lovable Scottish terrier.
“Lady and the Tramp” will also include two new original songs, both of which will be written by Monáe.
