Lady Gaga is no stranger to standing up for what she believes in, and time and time again, she has shown her devotion to her trans fans and the LGBTQ community. The pop singer has spent much of her decade-long career being an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ rights, going as far as starting her own anti-bullying campaign called the Born This Way Foundation. She even recognized all her LGBTQ fans in her No. 1 hit song “Born This Way.”
Showing that she will always stand firm for the LGBTQ community, on Oct. 22, Gaga defended her trans fans on Twitter after Sunday report by “The New York Times” revealed a plan by the Trump administration to create a limited legal definition of what gender is.
“The government may be living in an alternate universe, but we as a society & culture know who we are and know our truth and must stick together and raise our voices so we can educate them about gender identities,” Gaga tweeted out.
A leaked memo from the Department of Health and Human Services showed that the Trump administration is currently attempting to define gender among government agencies, according to “The New York Times.”
If made legal, the new definition would pretty much erase federal recognition of transgender people.
In a series of Tweets, Gaga called out Trump for his attempt to define transgender people and how his administration does not reflect the rest of the world’s understanding of what it means to be transgender.
While today you might feel unheard or unseen, know that this is not the reality of humanity,” Gaga wrote. “This is another display of leadership being driven by ignorance.”
