For one man, a stop at a McDonalds drive-through to pick up dinner for his kids led to more than a fast food takeaway. A North Carolina man who was out picking up burgers and chicken nuggets for his kids when he scored a lottery jackpot, winning a $200,000 lottery.
Edward Rackley of Nashville, who works in the fencing business, told North Carolina Education Lottery officials he stopped on his way to McDonald’s to buy a $200,000 Back Scratch lottery ticket from a Dollar Country store.
While waiting at the McDonald’s drive-through, Rackley decided to scratch his ticket.
“I had ordered 50 chicken nuggets and four plain hamburgers,” Rackley said. “I figured while I was waiting, I might as well start scratching.”
Rackley said he didn’t believe his eyes at first when he scratched off the $200,000 prize, so he asked the McDonald’s clerk to give him a second opinion.
Rackley claimed his prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $141,003. He said he plans to use the fund to fix up his car before spending the rest on his kids.
“I know one thing,” Rackley said. “Santa will be good to them this year.”
The $5 ticket launched earlier this month with four top prizes of $200,000. Back Scratch tickets range from $1 to $10, offering top prizes from $10,000 to $1 million. If a player turns any of the tickets over, they’ll find up to five more chances to win.
