The big stars in ‘Red Notice’
Netflix is making strides in the film industry. Universal removed “Red Notice” from its 2020 release schedule, but the streaming service has taken over. The film reunited Dwayne Johnson with his “Skyscraper” and “Central Intelligence” writer/director Rawson Marshall Thurber, Ryan Reynolds has also been added to the cast. “Wonder Woman” star Gal Gadot came on board in April.
Under Universal, “Red Notice” was supposed to be released on Nov. 13, 2020 and was meant to be a big budget film. However, the studios had some reservations, and when Thurber and producers pointed out the progress-to-production clauses in the original contract, Universal agreed to let them take the project elsewhere. That’s when Netflix swooped in.
Principal photography is set to begin in various locations in 2020 as Netflix is currently on “John Henry and the Statesmen.”
The film will be produced by the team that produced “Skyscraper,” as well as Beau Flynn for his Flynn Picture Co. Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia for Seven Bucs Productions is also partners for the film along with Thurber for his Bad Version, Inc. Scott Sheldon will serve as executive producer.
“Red Notice” originally had a proposed budget between $125 million and $150 million, and it is expected to be one of Netflix’s most expensive ventures to date.
