Meet The New Live-Action Genie
The very first trailer that Disney released for its upcoming live action remake of “Aladdin” left people scratching their heads about Will Smith’s Genie. But now, the studios has released the full trailer for its live-action remake, directed by Guy Ritchie, and it offers a more in depth first look at Genie.
The full trailer, which debuted on “Good Morning America,” shows off the movie’s iconic musical sequences and more of Genie’s magical wish-granting powers. The trailer also features the first few notes of “A Whole New World,” as well as snippets from “A Friend Like Me.”
Mena Massoud stars as the street-rat-with-a-heart-of-gold Aladdin, with Naomi Scott as the beautiful and srong-willed Princess Jasmine. The film opens in theaters on May 24, 2019 and also stars Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as the Sultan, Nasim Pedrad as Jasmine’s handmaiden, Billy Magnussen as a potential suitor for the Princess, and Numan Acar as Jafar’s right-hand man.
And much like Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” live action movie, “Aladdin” will feature new songs by Alan Menken and “La La Land” songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
Are you excited to see one of Disney’s iconic fairy tales come to life? It’s one of Disney’s many live-action versions of Disney classics to head theaters this year. The Tim Burton-helmed “Dumbo” comes out later this month, and “The Lion King” premieres on July 19. A sequel to 2014’s Maleficent will also be coming out on Oct. 18.
