Steamy Hallows Is An Ode To Harry Potter
Accio Butterbeer! That’s a spell that will prove useful if you head to this New York café and need to down a delicious drink inspired by one of the most famous book series in the world.
Normally, wizards and muggles have to flock to Universal Studios when they want to be immersed in the fantastical world created by J.K. Rowling, but thankfully, a new wizard-themed café is bringing a touch of magic to New York City, and it is the perfect place for every witch, wizard, and muggle to tantalize their taste buds.
Steamy Hallows, located in New York’s East Village, was brought to fans by the same team that brought the Tim Burton films to life with the popular Beetle House bar. The “Harry Potter”-inspired café is located at 514 East 6th Street and is slightly unassuming from the outside, but once inside, customers will feel like they stepped into a Harry Potter book because of how intricately decorated the interior is.
Steamy Hallows is a charming and quaint “grab and go” style café, with only four stools along the wall and walls decorated in Diagon Alley-esque style. Owner Zach Neil wanted the café to represent a small coffee shop that might be found in Diagon Alley, noting that he purposely avoided going too “over the top” as a way to make the experience more immersive.
Menu items include Butterbrew and Love Potion #9 ¾, which are said to be the most popular café selections. Neil based his version of the book’s butterbeer on classic recipes from the 1500s, which typically include ingredients like real butter and ginger, both of which are a delicious mix of sweet and savory flavors. The Love Potion #9 ¾ drink is a glittery latte that consists of chocolate mocha syrup, rosewater, raspberry syrup, and espresso.
