R. Kelly Walks Out Of Jail After Making Bail

After just three days in custody, R&B singer R. Kelly walked out of Cook County Jail on Monday. Hours earlier, Kelly pleaded not guilty to charges he sexually abused of sexually abusing four individuals, three of whom were under the age of 17 at the time of the alleged crimes, which took place between 1998 and 2010.

The charges came on the heels of the Lifetime documentary, “Surviving R. Kelly,” which, over the course of six episodes, claimed to describe decades of sexual misconduct allegations, all of which Kelly has denied.

This is not the musician’s first time facing multiple sex crime charges. In June 2008, a jury in Chicago cleared Kelly of 14 child pornography charges, some of which seem to mirror the new accusations against him.

Kelly appeared before Associate Judge Lawrence Flood, who was randomly assigned Monday to oversee the hot-button case. He has been on the bench since 2001 and assigned to the criminal courts for more than a decade.

According to local reports, a woman who said she was a friend of R. Kelly’s posted $100,000 for his bail. Upon his release, Kelly and his entourage were spotted at a McDonald’s in River North — a hangout of his in the 1990s formerly known as the Rock ’n’ Roll McDonald’s.
