LOS ANGELES — The presidential race is heating up… in the land of Far Far Away.
Shrek is apparently running for office. This clip announcing his candidacy, which goes live at 3 p.m. ET Wednesday, launches a satirical presidential campaign backed by DreamWorksTV, an arm of Jeffrey Katzenberg’s DreamWorks Animation.

In addition to YouTube videos, the faux-election also extends to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Prince Charming, for example, made his own presidential announcement last week — which reached 659,520 people and received 2,435 reactions, comments and shares, according to DreamWorksTV.

Other candidates in the “race” include Pinocchio and Fairy Godmother.
DreamWorks invested $33 million in the YouTube network AwesomenessTV in 2013 in order to use its popular animated characters — including Shrek, Puss in Boots and Kung Fu Panda — for separate online series.
Last year, DreamWorksTV passed the 1 million subscriber milestone on YouTube, putting it ahead of competing kids channels from Cartoon Network (598,209 subscribers), Disney Channel (717,337 subscribers) and Nickelodeon (642,174 subscribers).
The online network is also home to additional kid-friendly content like the sketch comedy show OMG and RetroToons, which features highlights from DreamWorks Animation’s classic media library.
The Far Far Away election will continue to unfold on social platforms all year, mirroring the American presidential election’s timeline — and touching on topical issues as well.
