Everyone Is Buzzing About Live-Action ‘The Little Mermaid’
In some recent news of the upcoming live-action remake of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina have signed on with the studios to play Flounder and Scuttle, respectively. Prior to the announcement of their role, it was reported that Melissa McCarthy would be taking on the role of Ursula the Sea Witch.
Although the deal is not quite complete, Disney s looking to help some “poor unfortunate souls” with the help of McCarthy.
Director Rob Marshall, whose last project was “Mary Poppins Returns” is helming “The Little Mermaid.” The live-action remake will incorporate the famous original songs from the 1989 animated film as well as new original scores composed by famous composer Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda is also serving as a producer on the film, alongside Marc Platt and John DeLuca. David Magee is carrying on the script writing since Jane Goldman last wrote a script.
As many will know, having grown up watching the film, “The Little Mermaid” tells the story of Ariel, a mermaid princess who falls in love with a human prince. In a bold effort to win his heart, Ariel trades her voice for a pair of human legs with Ursula the Sea Witch. With the help of her sea friends, Ariel has three days to make Prince Eric fall in love with her.
The live-action adaption will feature the Oscar-winning songs “Under the Sea,” “Part of Your World” and “Kiss the Girl.”
