Terry Crews wants to be the next King Triton
Halle Bailey will be playing Ariel, Awkwafina will be playing Scuttle and Jacob Tremblay will play the adorable tropical fish buddy, Flounder. But Disney still has a lot of casting left to do for its upcoming live-action adaption of “The Little Mermaid.”
King Triton is one of those characters slots that has yet to be filled, but one person has stepped up to nominate himself for the role. Terry Crews has unofficially applied for the role of King Triton in the “The Little Mermaid” live-action remake, posting a funny composite of himself Saturday as the pumped Poseidon-like ruler, complete with the green fin.
“Ariel’s Dad!!!” Crews wrote, adding in another tweet: “Good thing I skip leg day because mermen don’t have legs!”
Since then, Twitter has been explosive, with many fans backing up the idea to have Crews play Triton.
But another candidate has been nominated by fans to play King Triton, and it’s none other than Idris Elba.
It’s a close-run, but who will come out the winner?
“The Little Mermaid” will be produced by John DeLuca, Marc Platt and Lin-Manuel Miranda and is set to feature the songs from the original 1989 animated film by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. New songs by Menken and Miranda will be added to the score as well.
