A superpower-pack period piece series coming to HBO
Everyone loves a good period piece but HBO is promising more than a mere period piece with the upcoming “The Nevers” series featuring Victorian women with superpowers. HBO revealed a sneak peek of the new Victorian sci-fi series starring Eleanor Tomlinson and James Norton taking place during the last years of Victoria’s reign.
The series features the aftermath of a supernatural event occurring in London in 1896 and results in several young women gaining extraordinary powers. “The Nevers” features a strong feminist theme with the plot surrounding a group of women who have unusually extraordinary abilities that are known through London as the ‘Touched’ people.

Though many fear the group, two of “the touched,” Penance Adair (played by Ann Skelly) and Amalia True (played by Laura Donnelly), set out on an adventure to bring together all of the ‘touched’ to realize their fate. The first trailer is already promising an action-packed adventure with a ton of special effects and a ton of plot twists.
The first season will be released in two parts each featuring six episodes with the first part premiering on April 11 and the second part premiere date has yet to be confirmed. The series was created by Josh Whedon known for “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” but after the first six episodes, Whedon announced his exit from the show.

Whedon announced in November after completing the first part of the first season that he decided to leave the show citing he was exhausted but reports indicate Whedon was known for creating a toxic work environment. One of the stars from “Buffy The Vampire,” Charisma Carpenter, along with supporting co-stars accuse Whedon of creating a toxic and hostile work environment.
Following Whedon’s exit, HBO appointed Phillippa Goslett as the new showrunner for the remaining six episodes of the first season. The first six episodes will feature the ‘touched’ coming together to find out their purpose and will set up the storyline for the second part of the first season.
