“Animation, comics, cosplay, video games, and more. These are interests black people have had for a long time and seems to be growing by the day. Meet the New Nerd,” the synopsis on Amazon Prime reads.
Each Black nerd or ‘Blerd’ is disciplined in various areas such as software engineering and comic book artist, but what every person has in common is their geek side. “The New Nerd,” directed by Yahya Isamail, gives viewers insight into the professional lives of Black creatives.
The show spotlights three creatives: animator and comic book artist Joshua Bullock, Brooklyn cosplayer Chibi Thot, and comedian, writer, and anime enthusiast Yedoye Travis.
The docu-series also goes into the world of animation, comics, cosplay, video games and more, and takes viewers to the Game Developers of Color Expo in Harlem where software developers, engineers, and creatives showcase their work.
