The Weeknd says he’s done with the Grammys
Members of the music industry were shocked at the biggest snub for the 2021 Grammys with no nominations for The Weeknd’s ‘After Hours’ album and the artist has already responded with a shocking announcement. The Weeknd released a statement saying, “I will no longer allow my label to submit my music to the Grammys” citing “secret committees” responsible for choosing nominees.

The Weeknd is boycotting the Grammys for the foreseeable future and declares he will no longer allow his label to submit his music to the Grammys. Last year The Weeknd was snubbed by the Grammys and responded with a tweet saying “The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency…”
The continued snubs of the chart-topping artist have increased the scrutiny surrounding the private Grammy nominee process. The limited information of the nomination process consists of anonymous expert committees reviewing initial nomination choices by thousands of members of the music industry who make up the voting membership of the Recording Academy (the nonprofit group responsible for the awards) having the final say for 61 of the 84 award categories.

The Weeknd has the support of many critics and members of the music industry citing the artist’s many achievements with the ‘After Hours’ album being the 4th highest-selling album of 2020, the “Blinding Lights” song making history spending one year in the Hot 100 Top 10, performing the 2021 Super Bowl halftime show, and sold out his upcoming world tour.
Prior to the announcement of the nominations, many music industry experts predicted The Weeknd would be a top contender for awards. The Weeknd explains he felt “sadness, anger, and confusion” for being snubbed again while calling out for transparency in the nomination process.
