“The Witches” will make a comeback for Halloween
It’s only the second day of October and HBOMax is already getting ready for Halloween by announcing the upcoming release of “The Witches” movie reboot. The movie will be based on Roald Dahl’s 1983 book The Witches about a young boy who crosses paths with a coven of witches who hate children and hatch a plot to turn children into mice.
Dahl’s book was originally adapted into a movie in 1990 starring Anjelica Huston as the leader of the witch coven and her role will be reprised in the 2020 reboot by Anne Hathaway. The movie is narrated by Chris Rock to tell the story of a young orphan played by Jahzir Bruno who is sent to be cared for by his grandmother played by Octavia Spencer.
The movie starts by following the young boy’s journey to healing his sadness with the help of his loving grandmother until they come across a coven of witches while staying at a hotel. While the young boy and grandmother are vacationing, the witches are plotting to rid the world of the one thing they hate most, children.

The Grand High Witch played by Anne Hathaway concocts a potion to turn children into mice and leads the group of witches on a manhunt or mice hunt to get rid of children. The young boy discovers the witches plot but is caught while spying and the witches turn him into a mouse.
The grandmother discovers her grandson in the form a mouse and hatches a plan to fight evil to transform her grandson back into a human. Though the film was initially set to have a theatrical release on October 16 but will instead be available on HBOMax starting October 22.
The change from a theatrical release from straight to streaming was a result of social distancing protocols for the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Despite not making its theatrical debut, everyone is pretty excited to be able to see the new spooky movie just in time for Halloween.
