Every athlete dreams that one day they will be so great they will make it to the Olympics. It’s what you live for as an athlete….it’s a way of life. All the blood, sweat, and tears that’s put into training is all in hopes it will pay off. All athletes who make it big have gone through an emotional, or physical battle on their journey, but one young athlete from South Sudan is standing out above the rest.
Meet 19-year-old Margret Rumat Rumst Hassan, a 400-meter runner from South Sudan. Margret is on her way to competing in this year’s Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Not only is this journey impressive for an athlete at this age being so young, but also because of where she is from. She will be the very first athlete to represent her country after South Sudan gained independence from Sudan in 2011.
And of course Samsung picked the perfect person to help represent their campaign. She’s an athlete that has had so much progress and is defying barriers…she’s overcoming something. Watch as a village unites and cheers on one young girl in a heart-pounding chant on her road to Rio!
