It’s the year that Asians and Asian Americans in the film industry are getting the recognition they deserve!
At the 2019 Golden Globe Awards, Sandra Oh became the first actress of Asian descent to win multiple Golden Globes, the first person of Asian descent to host the ceremony, and the first woman of Asian descent in 39 years to win the Globe for best actress in a television drama.
Oh also had the distinction of having her beloved parents in attendance, and during her acceptance speech, the “Killing Eve” actress gave a heartwarming moment when she told her parents she loves them in Korean.
“There are two people here tonight that I’m so grateful they’re here for me,” Oh said, before saying “Mom, Dad, I love you” in Korean and giving a slight bow.
Oh’s dad gave her a standing ovation, while Oh’s “Grey’s Anatomy” family took to Twitter to celebrate Oh, her win and her job hosting the 2019 ceremony alongside Andy Samberg.
“We’re are bursting with excitement to see Sandra Oh receive this incredible recognition from the Hollywood Foreign Press,” Sarah Barnett, president of entertainment networks for AMC Networks, said in a statement. “Killing Eve has captivated both fans and critics, and Sandra has shown once again that she is one of the most accomplished actors of her generation, someone audiences will wholeheartedly follow wherever she goes. It’s not too long now before everyone gets to see the next extraordinary season unfold when Killing Eve returns to BBC America on April 7th.”
