“Baby Shark,” doo doo doo doo doo doo!
Warning to all parents with young children and teachers everywhere: the company responsible for the viral 2018 earworm “Baby Shark” are currently working with Netflix on a television show.
Bloomberg reports that the South Korean YouTube channel is planning on releasing short videos via Netflix, a cartoon series, and eventually a musical.
According to a Bloomberg interview with one of the founders of SmartStudy Co.’s Pinkfong, the Korean educational entertainment company is “planning to release short videos via Netflix Inc., a cartoon series and a musical in North America this year.”
The company is also working on creating games that work with voice assistants such as Amazon’s Alexa and Google Home.
SmartStudy Co.’s video “Baby Shark Dance,” which went viral in June 2016, now has over two billion views on YouTube, placing it in the top 30 most viewed videos on the platform. The song has even made it onto the Billboard Hot 100’s Top 40 list.
“We’ve added the ‘K-pop factor’ into our songs, such as very trendy beats and upbeat rhythms,” Seungkyu Lee, chief financial officer of SmartStudy, said in the interview. “If you’ve ever heard of ‘Baby Shark,’ you might feel the importance of community. In a group, we should walk or swim together.”
Lee also added that the company plans on developing content for older children, ages 5 to 8, and are focusing on using penguins instead of sharks.
