This guy makes riding a foot scooter dangerous, but kinda cool for the first time, we’ll admit.
A man rode a kids’ scooter down the busy Cross City Tunnel in Sydney, Australia on Tuesday, because driving a car just didn’t seem to quite cut it.
Drivers were forced to keep behind the scooter rider headed westbound at around 3:30 p.m., according to 9 News. Dressed in a rather professional looking white-collared shirt, pants and black shoes — the man appears to be grinning as he tackles the 2.1 kilometre (1.3 mile) tunnel that travels under Sydney’s city centre.
Unsurprisingly, it’s illegal to ride a foot scooter, skateboard or rollerblades down a road with a dividing line or median strip, or with a speed limit greater than 50 kilometres per hour (31 miles per hour), or a one-way road with more than one marked lane, according to state law. So that pretty much rules out every road.
If the guy had bothered to check out the Cross City Tunnel’s FAQ page, he would’ve also got a pretty clear answer about entering the tunnel on a scooter.
Officials from Transurban, who run the tunnel, sounded an alarm and told the man over the tunnel’s PA system to stop. When crews arrived he had already fled the scene according to 9 News, pushing his scooter towards freedom, beautiful freedom.
We’d love to know what he was thinking in the lead-up and whether a long lunch was involved, but scooter guy is probably hiding out from the authorities who are likely after him, as he glides away from their grasp.
