Colorado School Shooting Reports One Fatality
It’s scary to think just how normal school shootings have become since the Columbine shooting 20 years ago. Sadly, a school shooting not far from Columbine High School – seven miles to be exact – left one student dead and eight others injured on Tuesday, according to authorities.
Two suspects – believed to be students at the school – were apprehended after the shooting at the STEM School Highlands Ranch, which covers K-12. About 1,850 students attend the school, according to the school website.
This shooting made headlines not just for the vents that unfolded but the fact that it has a rare connection to the deadly assault on Columbine High School years ago. Both events had two shooters.
Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said that one suspect is an adult male and one is believed to be a juvenile. One suspect has been identified as Devon Erickson. Erickson, 18, is the adult suspect, the Douglas Colorado Sheriff’s office said on Twitter.
The department said it will not release photos at this time to maintain the integrity of the investigation.
Not long ago before this incident, Douglas County Schools were also closed April 17 as authorities rushed to find an armed Florida teen that was infatuated with the Columbine massacre. The woman, authorities said, made threats before traveling to Colorado, where she died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
