Thought the movie Creed was about the rockers behind “My Sacrifice”? You’re not alone. Creed frontman Scott Stapp made the same mistake — and he reviewed the movie for Funny or Die under this misguided notion.
“As Creed the movie unfolded, there wasn’t much that resembled what happened in Creed the band,” says a disconcerted Stapp in the video. In fact, the movie’s Creed (Michael B. Jordan) never plays epic guitar solos or sings atop a cliff, and he boxes way too much for Stapp’s taste.
“One time I punched a guy from 311, but I never boxed,” Stapp says.
Even with its apparent factual errors, Stapp concedes that the film has its merits.
“I can’t deny cinematographer Maryse Alberti paints Philadelphia as a gritty tapestry with his flair for high-contrast lighting and deftly orchestrated tracking shots.
“But I’m not from Philadelphia,” he added. “I’m from Creed.”
Creed opens Nov. 25. Stapp gave it four out of five arms wide open.
