DC’s “Birds of Prey” movie will reportedly complete principal photography in April 2019. Margot Robbie reprises her role of Harley Quinn, a part she played to popular acclaim in 2016’s “Suicide Squad.” Although “Suicide Squad” was heavily criticized, Robbie’s portrayal was tremendously popular, sparking an interest that eventually led to the actual development of the upcoming all-female superhero/antihero movie.
“Birds of Prey” will reportedly be very different to the traditional DC films, and will be aiming for an R-rating. Although most of the action will be in Gotham City, Batman won’t make an appearance.
As an all-female superhero/antihero movie, Robbie will be joined by Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress and Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary. Newcomer Ella Jay Basco will play Cassandra Cain. Filming is scheduled to begin in mid-January in Los Angeles.
The film is said to be different from the “Birds of Prey” comic, which saw Barbara Gordon team up with Huntress and Black Canary as crime fighters in Gotham City. Instead, the DCEU version of “Birds of Prey” will be a girl gang formed by Harley Quinn.
The rumored synopsis of the movie is that Harley Quinn has split up with the Joker to form the team in order to save the life of a little girl, Cassandra Cain, from an evil crime lord. While little information has been released on the upcoming movie, what has been leaked points in the direction of Black Mask being the main villain.
From the looks of things, “Birds of Prey” will loosely connect to the rest of the DCEU.
