Man Found In Lake On FIU Campus

Police are currently investigating after a man’s body was pulled from a lake on the campus of Florida International University Tuesday morning. FIU Police officials confirmed that the body was recovered from the lake on the Biscayne Bay campus around 8 a.m. The body was identified as 30-year-old Otniel Jean, according to Miami-Dade police. Officials said they believe he is not a member of the university community.

FIU also confirmed the police account in a tweet and letter sent to students and faculty at 9:30 a.m.

“There is no known potential of any threat to FIU or the FIU/MAST@BBC community,” FIU said.
MAST @ BBC refers to the Marine Academy of Science and Technology high school that has a collaborative relationship with the university.

Miami-Dade Police are handling the death investigation and said they are working to determine if the person was part of a group who were playing soccer on campus over the weekend because the group reported that their friend had gone missing.

Miami Dade police do not believe there was any foul play involved, but because the body was discovered, an investigation needs to be done in order to find out what happened, but also to give Jean’s family some type of closure.
