Get ready for a magical night filled with rainbows and happiness because Disney is bringing LGBTQ pride to one of its theme parks for the first time in its history.
The event is called “Magical Pride” and will take place on June 1, 2019, at Disneyland Paris.
“Diversity and equality are strong values at Disneyland Paris, and each year, we host millions of visitors regardless of their origins, gender or sexual orientation,” a spokesperson for The Walt Disney Company told NBC News. “We are committed to fostering a welcoming environment for all of our Guests where magic is for everyone.”
“Magical Pride” first started in 2014 as an unofficial event at Disneyland Paris, but grew into a well known annual celebration to the point that it was taken over by The Walt Disney Company, according to Nathan Tunnah, a travel consultant at Greatdays Travel Ltd., which helped organize the unofficial event.
“Last year, Disney decided to make it a signature event, because they saw how popular it is becoming,” Tunnah told NBC news.
Disney’s decision to officially sponsor an LGBTQ pride event comes 28 years after the corporation hosted Disney Gay Days in 1991.
For those attending “Magical Pride” in Disneyland Paris this year, select rides will be open from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., and there will be character meet-and-greets, musical performances and a pride-themed “diversity parade.”
