Iggy Pop's got a new album and a supergroup with Josh Homme

Iggy Pop is back, and he’s bringing some seriously famous friends along.

The singer has announced that his new album, Post Pop Depression, will come out on March 18. And though it’s an Iggy album, he’s assembled a supergroup to get the job done — including Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal), who also produced the record; Dean Fertita (QOTSA and the Dead Weather); and Matt Helders (Arctic Monkeys).

In a statement, the legendary rocker explained how the album came to fruition.

“I wanted to be free,” he says. “To be free, I needed to forget. To forget, I needed music. Josh had that in him, so I set out to provoke an encounter-first with a carefully worded text, followed by a deluge of writings all about me. No composer wants to write about nothing. He got revved up and we had a great big rumble in the desert USA.”

For his part, Homme says this album goes “where neither of us had gone before.” The group will also go on tour to promote the album, and will be joined live by guitarist Matt Sweeney and QOTSA’s Troy Van Leeuwen.

The group performed the new song “Gardenia” on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert Jan. 21.

Here’s the tracklist for Post Pop Depression:

1. “Break Into Your Heart”
2. “Gardenia”
3. “American Valhalla”
4. “In The Lobby”
5. “Sunday”
6. “Vulture”
7. “German Days”
8. “Chocolate Drops”
9. “Paraguay”
