Jet-Powered Glider Brings Anime to Life

This Japanese anime inspired jet has just about been perfected. It is called OpenSky and is a jet-powered, tailless glider. It can actually fly for 15 minutes at a time which, believe it or not, is a pretty long time for a device like this.

Kazuhiko Hachiya has spent the past ten 10 years designing and testing the device and recently debuted a real model with a working engine. Hachiya was inspired by the Japanese animated film, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. The contraption has a wing-span of 31 feet and can reach up to wind speeds of 75 miles per hour.
Who knows, maybe Hachiya’s creation will be on the market soon and you can have your own jet-powered glider.
Check out the video to see the glider in action!
