On the court Kawhi Leonard is a force to be reckoned with. His demeanor might not put him on many headlines or press releases but it definitely makes him somebody to watch on the court.
The man’s been playing with the Spurs since 2011, when he got drafted and played his rookie year. He was named NBA All-Rookie First Team in his first season with the San Antonio Spurs because of his attitude while playing the game of basketball. He’s someone who listens and takes the game very seriously.
In a league where coaches promote wearing your heart on your sleeves and playing with emotion and guts, Kawhi Leonard did the opposite. He took advantage of the veteran status many players on the roster had. From Manu Ginóbili, to Tim Duncan to even Tony Parker, he had a lot to learn and take in.
And it paid off.
In 2014, Kawhi Leonard won his first championship with the Spurs and got awarded the finals MVP. That was against a stacked team at the time. Fast forward 4 years later and the roster is completely different. The older guys are gone and the team isn’t having much success.
The spurs traded Kawhi and now he’s looking into free agency to play with the Clippers in LA. Hopefully he gets what he wants and doesn’t have to face the troubles he did in San Antonio.
They say theres a special player he’s looking forward to play with, but I’m pretty sure he’s happier to be involved in an organization that can help him get to a championship more than anything.
